Took a look at the website(s) of Seripop today, a couple of illustrators with a highly weird style that I guess you either love or hate. Much of it I love but their blog was what I found most interesting, in particular a quote they posted. Click the image to go take a look at their blog. Via It’s Nice That.

“The main thing i stress to my students is the seperation of personal expression versus commercial art . I really think that you’re set to get your heart broken if you go into commercial art trying to do your art there, some people can and it’s natural for them , but you really have to serve people. , and that’s the idea of it. When you do commercial illustration – and I’ve said this a billion times because someone said it to me in college- you need to take your ego out and put it in a box to be a commercial artist.”

Gary Panter . , from the excellent book , In the Studio by Todd Hignite
